Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Help my students get physically fit with fun and safe exercise equipment! Staying active for at least 60 minutes a day will help them stay healthy and alert, which will improve their ability to learn throughout the day.
My students have been requesting better outside "toys" to use when we are active on the playground.
They are a class of transitional kindergarteners, which means they will be turning 5 before the end of the year. Our wonderful, multi-cultural, public school is located in the San Fernando Valley.
We are a Title I school, and many of my students come from economically disadvantaged homes. My class includes students that are both English and non-English speakers, as well as students with disabilities. Many of them do not get the chance to participate in physical fitness activities at home.
My Project
My children have requested more toys for our outside play time. This time includes their recess and physical education (PE) periods. This is the time they have each day to run, jump, exersice, play team games, and many other physical activities. They have specifically asked for more tricycles and foam pogo sticks, because our current tricycles are old and breaking down (losing pedals, etc.) and the few foam pogo sticks we have are cracking and breaking down because of daily use. They would love to have these items, as well as a greater variety of play equipment.
The requested items will help my students become physically active for at least 60 minutes every day.
They have a daily recess time of 30 minutes, and a daily physical education time of another 30 minutes, for a total of 60 minutes. They will be strengthening their arms and legs as they ride the tricycles around our painted track, and developing strong lungs as they jump around the yard on the foam pogo sticks. They will strengthen fine motor skills as they use the Egg Spoon Race game and sand toys. Our students will get lots of active play from these items. While playing and strengthening their physical bodies, they will also be learning to share, take turns, and play together as a team.
By funding this proposal, you will be providing wonderful equipment that will help my Transitional Kindergarteners become physically fit. Thanks to Target, my students will be healthier and more active!
