This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are three years old and this is their first experience in school. They are among the first three year olds to attend 3K in the NYC school district. They come from a low income/high poverty neighborhood in the South Bronx, and have not been afforded the opportunities that children in more well to do neighborhoods are given.

It's my goal to provide a classroom for my students that is welcoming, offers opportunities for exploration, and prepares them for future academic success.

My Project

My 3K students are working on strengthening their gross motor skills. Gross motor skills involve movements of large muscles in the arms, legs, and torso. These skills enable children to perform everyday self care tasks, such as getting dressed and climbing in and out of a car.

Gross motor skills are also important for a healthy lifestyle.

The sensory balls, hula hoops, hop-along balls, balancing egg race, and other active play supplies requested for my students will assist in strengthening their gross motor skills. These supplies will be used by my students during their active play time, and they will help my students get the exercise their bodies need, they will help build strength, and they will support balance and coordination.
