This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students walk into the classroom everyday ready to learn and grow. They love to read and learn new things through books and technology.

I teach at at Title 1 school in Richmond, CA, where 100% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch.

Even though my students face many hardships outside of school, they want to become scholars so they can have a successful life one day. They are creative, fun and energetic, and they deserve the best resources.

My Project

Many of my students live in neighborhoods where there is no where to play safely outside. Luckily, our school yard has a large blacktop area with multiple basketball and tetherball courts, a track, a kickball field, and four-square courts. We also have a large grass area for soccer and football. I focus on getting my students outside of the classroom as much as possible every week to play games and enjoy the outdoors. However, our current classroom P.E. equipment is falling apart and pretty minimal.

This project will allow me to create more fitness-focused Physical Education time, where I can actually teach my students proper fitness techniques.

They love competition, so I am planning on creating obstacle courses and relay races with our new equipment. I want to expose my students to other games and activities other than basketball and soccer, which they play everyday during Recess.

In addition, my 5th graders will be completing a Physical Fitness Test in a couple of months, and this equipment will help them prepare both physically and aerobically. I want to teach my students to live a healthy life, and this starts with being active and moving our bodies every day.
