This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My second graders are amazing. They are active and eager to learn. They are curious about everything, whether it be a new word or a rogue cricket that happens to wander into our classroom. My students are bright, resourceful, and full of imagination. Our school is in a very high poverty area where 98% of the students receive free or reduced lunch. Though my students do not have many resources at home, they come to school happy and excited to start the day. They are truly inspirational.

My Project

My students are your typical second graders. They love to wiggle and move. During reading and writing time, my students ask me if they can stand, move to the floor or move to a different seat so that they can concentrate better. Staying still at their seats is difficult for prolonged periods of time. "I would be able to concentrate so much better if I could move," observed one particularly wiggly student. The Hokki Seats would be perfect for my active class. These seats allow students to wiggle while they sit. This improves not only their concentration, but also their balance. Balance is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. My second graders also have seen a YouTube video about using scarves as a rhythmic activity. They have asked me if I could purchase them for my classroom.
