This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Everyday my TV production students read from a textbook and look at videos. But lack the equipment to put their knowledge into practice. We are trying to launch the school's first ever television news show. We want to run a weekly show by December and be airing twice a week by the end of Spring.

My students are in their second year of learning TV production.

They are supposed to be putting what they learned in year one into practice running a tv news program but we are need a few more pieces to get our studio setup. Once we are ready, my student will be the first television news staff in the history of our school. They are full of energy and are excited about being a "news team". We are a small school by Arizona standards, in a fairly low income community bordering on being suburban and rural where many students are home alone for a few hours after school until their parents get home from work. Our kids continue to amaze the faculty with the philanthropy that they put together on their own. Whenever I am asked about the kids that attend our school, I am quick to explain how compassionate they are toward one another.

My Project

With this equipment my students will be able to put in to practice the television production skills they have only been able to learn about. They will have a ladder to adjust our overhead lights, tripods to mount our cameras equipment and controllers that will allow the camera technicians to zoom in and out from the pan arms of the tripod instead of touching the camera and shaking the picture. Additionally, we will now have enough memory cards to record hours of footage at events on campus. We will finally be able to turn the lights on in our green room, say "Good Morning CHS" and keep our student population informed, educated and entertained while watching the student news.

This equipment will give students who may otherwise have no opportunity to explore the TV production industry the ability to experience first-hand what it is like to be a professional.

My hope is that this experience will get students excited about education beyond high school. Part of our curriculum is to explore colleges or trade schools that specialize in news media. My hope is that this new hands-on opportunity will be the reason some of my students go to college.
