My Students
My class is a highly motivated, energetic group of second graders with a wide range of learning styles. We spend our mornings working on becoming stronger readers and writers just like the authors of the books we study!
The majority of my students come from low income families and single parent households.
Despite struggles in their home lives, they come to school every day ready to learn and thrive. School is a safe haven for my students where we look at each other as family.
My Project
My students will use the reader's theater kits during our literacy blocks everyday. Reader's theater is a fun and successful way to engage students in reading and to help build fluent readers. I currently print and make reader's theater scripts for my students, but these kits would allow more students to benefit from participating in reader's theater. The kids love acting out the scenes and really getting into character!
Donations will better my students lives by giving them a fun, kinesthetic way to act out reading.
It will not only help them read more fluently, but it will also encourage them to use expression in their reading and pay attention to punctuation. Reader's theater is great for kids who need to get up and move around, while still be able to learn.
