My students need storytelling puppets so that they have the opportunity to act out familiar stories. Using the performing arts and literacy will help increase their language development.

My Students
We are an integrated co-teaching classroom in the New York with 26 Kindergarten students, each with unique strengths and challenges.
The 26 sprouts in our classroom have begun to blossom!
You can see and hear these great minds blooming as they begin to realize those squiggles on the page are words and that they can read them!
In our classroom, we strive to create a caring and safe learning environment where all students feel confident to take risks and grow as learners. We meet the needs of our diverse population by emphasizing compassion and respect for all.
My Project
Children are natural born actors, they love to imitate and imagine themselves as different people. Dramatic play is an important part of the learning process and encourages higher order thinking. I want to integrate more opportunities for drama in my Kindergarten classroom by adding a Puppet Center.
Students will be working on important language and literature skills while "playing" with these puppets.
Students will have the opportunity to practice dialogue, sequencing, and engage in imaginative play.
Integrating the arts into my classroom is a goal I have this year after taking a class on the arts in the early childhood classroom. Dramatic play encourages many higher order thinking skills, including creating, analyzing and evaluating.
