This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
New York City Public School 56 Queens (The Harry Eichler School) is a Title I 70% free lunch eligible school serving a largely immigrant population. Our international population has the good fortune to have access to the Internet in school because of our wireless connection installed by New York City's Department of Education.
Students conduct online research and often encounter files and forms to download in a .pdf format. While those files can be read by the "Acrobat Reader" which is free online, any changes while filling in the forms requires the full version of the software. To alter a form to send as part of an application requires purchase and licensing of the actual program. The New York City Department of Education posts most of its forms using this program adding to the challenge when we want to return completed forms. The "Adobe" Acrobat is needed so that our students can respond in a timely manner using the power (and speed) of the Internet.
Purchase of Acrobat (full version) has other advantages as we bring our students into the digital age. This program is a staple of online form use and to develop mastery of this software would be an asset to every student's skill set. Students are increasingly being asked to complete applications online or submit forms using Acrobat, so its acquisition would be beneficial. Jumping through hoops to fill out forms sould be easier with the right performance tool and could change any student application process. Students could actually stay digital from download to distribution and dissemination.
