My students are engaged and eager to learn. They are curious and constantly bringing up new wonders. My class is made up of students from a variety of cultures and socio-economic backgrounds yet they all have one thing in common. They have all been identified as academically gifted and talented. They are diligent readers and go through the classroom library rapidly. My students and I partake in reading competitions so that I am current on what they are reading as well.
I strive to bring new literature to my students that will peak their interests.
The students are constantly being challenged to read a variety of genres to expand their knowledge and reading repertoire!

Keeping current books on the shelf is a constant challenge.
The books from the South Carolina Junior Book Award nominations will bring recently published titles into the classroom. Students are eager to read these books so they can cast their own vote for the winner in the Book Award. The students will diligently read at a minimum 3 of the books from this project to be able to participate in discussions and voting. Upon completing this project they will have been exposed to a variety of genres and be able to partake in rich book discussions.
We (the students and I) look forward to receiving these books in order to grow during our independent reading time. The students will get to participate in book clubs where they chat about the books and debate on which one should win the final award!
