My students are an amazing group of kids. They are enthusiastic about school and embrace everything we do in class. They love reading, P.E., math, and science. Our school is a kindergarten through eighth grade school located in rural California. It serves 450 students. Our school is surrounded by forests and mountains and has daily visitors such as geese, turkeys, and deer.
Our school has a strong academic and athletic culture.
I want to maintain our strength in these areas by continuing to provide materials to enrich my students' experiences.
My Project
I have requested a variety of books from the Acorn series.
I have a group of students who are struggling with beginning-level chapter books.
I am hoping that getting the Acorn series books will help these kids out. These books give students the feel of reading a chapter book but the words and content aren't overwhelming. I teach the third grad and it is such a big deal for them to start reading chapter books. I hate when I see kids not passing tests on the traditional books read at this level. Getting these Acorns books into my students' hands will help give them the books, content, and vocabulary that will make them successful and eager to read.
