My Project
My students at my school are truly special and amazing. I want to help improve our school attendance this year with a more motivating PBIS incentive! Recognizing scholars for excellent attendance by entering their names into a school drawing will be an awesome new reward for students to work towards! Poor school attendance negatively impacts academic achievement and social/emotional growth, along with other learning opportunities school provides our youth with.
We had the worst school attendance in the eastern region of our district for the 2021/2022 school year.
Some of our scholars missed over 100 days of instruction last school year. We have a lot of work to do, and regular attendance is essential in reaching our students and providing them with opportunities to grow and learn. School attendance is identified as a behavior in our school district, therefor included in PBIS interventions and incentives. While many students are receiving or have received a Tier 2 attendance intervention this school year, I wanted to do more to really incentivize and motivate our students and their families to pursue excellent school attendance. I've found some awesome prizes for students to work towards achieving through excellent attendance; such as a LEGO set, writing tablets and a Nintendo Switch! Due to lack of funding and resources at my school, I have only been able to reward students with a new pencil monthly for their excellent school attendance. My students deserve so much more than what they have, and I'd love to be able to truly motivate them with incentives that they like and would be proud to achieve.
