Accountable Independent Reading Books that Excite and Engage Young Teens

My students need engaging and exciting books that they can read for their Accountable Independent Reading activity. This will promote independence, creativity, reading practice, and expose students to new vocabulary words, multiple genres, and new ideas.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from many different countries across the globe. They speak multiple languages and have unique traditions and practices that I love to learn about from them first hand. Their experiences are both incredible and harrowing, and yet we all come together in the same classroom to find comfort, education, and a positive environment.

What makes these students so special is that they all have something to teach each other, and they always have something to teach me.

In a world where new technologys always at our fingertips, it's meaningful for me to teach them about my love for books and how books always help us learn something new. I don't want books to be a foreign object to them, and a fun and inviting book can teach them incredible lessons on so many different levels.

My Project

Dr. Seuss said it best, "the more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go."

My students need books that they can read independently that will excite them to continue reading and allow them to use their imaginations while gaining new knowledge.

If they are regularly given time to read, if they are held accountable for their reading, and if they are provided many books with multiple fiction and non-fiction genres, they will be exposed to so much new information and they will be able to learn and gain prior knowledge.

In their future, this knowledge will help them, whether it is the fact that they are exposed to new vocabulary words and scenarios that they may later read about on the SAT's, or whether it exposes them to real life situations they may experience at home, in the work force, or in college, reading will teach my students an unlimited amount of knowledge and allow them to go farther in life.
