Accommodations Through a Laptop in an ELA Classroom!
Help me give my students 1 classroom computer to use. This computer will predominantly be helpful for students who need assistance with OT/ motor skills and would strongly benefit to type on the computer to take notes.

My Students
These are unprecedented times in NYC. Never did I imagine that March 13 would be the last day of the school year and even then, not all of my students were present in class due to COVID fears. However, the year is not over yet, and we are still planning for the next!
My students and I have embarked on the distance learning journey!
We are actively engaging in all sorts of different online platforms and learning new things from Google Classroom, Google Meets, Trello, and other online platforms. In addition, I am recording lessons at home for them to view and continue to learn new material. I am amazed by their level of engagement and participation, and families' willingness to try new thing and most of all, everyone's resilience in adapting to this novel way of learning and time.
My Project
My amazing students (I have 4 sections of 9th grade and 1 section of 12th grade) have been working incredibly hard using the assignments that I have given them with Google Classroom and the multimedia platforms that they are balancing (Trello, Youtube, Podcasts, Canva, etc.). While my school is a specialized school in NYC, we are still very different learners and have need various accommodations to be successful learners in the classroom. My students would benefit greatly from me having a laptop in order to type, refer to slides, take notes - especially my students who might have motor or OT skills.
This project will provide a laptop that will be for students that have such 504/IEP accommodations, so that I can use these amazing tools to assist my students with their remote learning experiences.
Once we excitedly return to school, as an ELA and ELL teacher, my students who are ELLs and who might have 504/ IEP accommodations will benefit immensely by having a laptop in our classroom that is dedicated for translation services, note-taking, and organization. In the past years, students (if possible) have been bringing laptops from home or have been using my personal laptop in class to help them. I think this would greatly address the various economic inequities that we have in our school in a better way.
More than half of students from low‑income households
