Our integrated co-teaching pre-k classroom is full of amazing, inquisitive 2 through 5 year olds of varying needs and backgrounds. My students come from diverse backgrounds all over Queens, NY and in a normal year, they are arriving to school with many needs such as sensory, language, emotional, physical, and intellectual supports. However, this year we are all navigating the murky waters of this pandemic and trying to stick together and find the brightness and love in each day and in each other. We are a true classroom family.
For my students, pre-k will be their first experience in the classroom, and I want them to be as comfortable as possible and be independent in a happy and supportive environment.
My Project
As a special educator, I’m constantly thinking of how to adjust our classroom environment to suit the needs of my learners. Right now, our art center just isn’t working to meet their needs! We would love to exchange our plastic, old easel that was used in a prior life at someone’s home for a true classroom easel that will accommodate various heights of our young learners as well as provide all their tools in one area. We also need some modified art utensils like special grip brushes and storage for them as well as supplies for painting! Help us access art!
