My Project
As a Special Education teacher, its my job to work with students closely so I can figure out what they need to reach their education goals. The items in my project are based on a list I've been keeping the first quarter of my first year at this school. Given the resources available to me, I now confidently know what tools I currently lack which will help increase my students' chances of learning what they need to learn; that goes for all students in my inclusion class who thrive with special accommodations, not only those in my caseload who formally receive Special Education services.
Every child has their own unique way of learning, and these items will help me accommodate instruction & curriculum for them on-the-fly.
For example, colored expo markers, poster markers, lined long post-its, tiny finger pointers, line readers, magnetic letters and place value base blocks, primary lined wipe boards, matching word cards, picture dictionaries, place value flip stand - these are all simple supplies that support students who easily lose focus and are helped by quick visuals during instruction. Other items support children with special needs in the areas of organization, sensitivity tolerance, repetitive habits, time management (large digital clock, sand timer, noise cancelling headphones, planners, specialized fidgets, innovative handwriting practice books.
