My Students

As the world of technology evolves, so does our school's technology needs. Our computer lab was EXTREMELY fortunate to receive a brand new interactive white board and mounted projector this past week. The capabilities are awesome and the possibilities are seemingly endless.

I teach in a prekindergarten to fifth grade elementary school, with my focus on classes from prekindergarten through second grade.

We have a very mixed population comprised of children from various backgrounds, including first generation immigrants, as well as families who have lived in the area for generations. We have a gifted and talented program, a growing ELL population and many classes containing students with special needs. Each of these children are unique, curious and love to learn in their own ways. One way we have found to reach all students is through shared technology. Giving all the children in the class the ability to see and use the interactive white board during class lessons helps to unite them with a common focus, as well as allowing them to learn from one another.

My Project

We are so excited to get started using our new technology, however, I realized very quickly that we are in need of a few additional supplies, including a wireless mouse and keyboard combo, to fully implement the possibilities of the new interactive white board. The lab is full of computer tables, chairs and printers. The area for the children to sit to see the board is tight, with very little room to move around. A wireless mouse and keyboard would allow for the children to share the work, without having to step over one another to get to the board. They could simply pass and share the wireless equipment. The toner, which is always in demand, will of course be used for printing out their completed work. The flash drives are for storing work in progress. They will allow for easy sharing and opening and editing of a student's work on the white board computer.

Having the correct materials to work with is so important to the educational process.

I know that if my students have access to these supplies, they will have even greater opportunities to learn, develop and grow!
