This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Each one of my students has an individualized service plan and are mandated for speech/language services to address areas of need such as receptive language, expressive language, articulation, and fluency. My students enjoy coming to speech therapy and working on their goals. It is amazing to see their reactions when they learn a new strategy. My students may need various repetitions before grasping a concept. Students learn at different rates and it is important to give them their best possible outcome. My school is extremely supportive. However, being that we are in a high needs area, we are not provided with all of the supplies needed in speech to address all of the students objectives. Therefore, we are requesting the assistance from Donors Choose to assist us in reaching our goals.
My Project
My students' struggle in the areas of receptive and expressive language skills. Using the language learning center for common core standards and reading informational text learning center for common core standards, will allow me to provide my students with various models, examples as well as practice to better enrich their language development. Furthermore, the toobaloo will be beneficial for the students who I work with that stutter. The toobaloo allows students to hear themselves and make modifications to their speech productions. This can be a great resource for some of my students who dislike participating in class due to their stutter. Also, the Mr. Potato head, play fruit set and alphabet chart would be used with the younger grades to target vocabulary, following directions, sequencing, etc. Overall, the materials requested would be a great resource for these students who reside in a low income community.
