My Project
I am a brand new teacher, lucky enough to educate and influence students on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. While there are amazing benefits to going to school here, I know my high school classrooms didn't even have windows, let alone a mountain view, our education system is poorly funded. Moreover, the humidity takes its toll on our metal furniture and having an outdoor campus contributes to the buildup.
I want to create a place for my students where they feel comfortable, an inviting, clean, appealing place for them to work and learn.
The feet of my student desks leave rust stains all over the floor, making the room look dirty no matter how much elbow grease I put in. The tennis balls would prevent this from worsening and keep the floors looking clean next school year after they've been stripped and resealed. The rug and rug pad would offer flexible seating, especially whilst working on larger projects that require more space.
The shelf and shelf organizers are a bit of a selfish ask. To say I can't go more than a few minutes without a student asking me for a handout of some sort is not a dramatization. More student-accessible storage will allow my students the autonomy to get what they need when they need it, without me, and would allow me the potential to start and finish a task in one attempt.
