Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
For most of our students, school offers structure, safety, food, and other things many take for granted. Our incredible school is a Title I school (95% of our students receive free or reduced-cost lunch) with an bilingual population of 95% in a bustling neighborhood. In addition to basic needs, school should offer engaging and meaningful opportunities in learning academics and becoming accepting citizens. Finding the funds and time to gather supplies to create these opportunities can be consuming, but these students deserve it.
These students are truly the brightest, kindest, and most hardworking kids around.
With rich cultural backgrounds, loving and supportive families, and multilingual abilities, they work hard to achieve their academic and interpersonal goals and find success. But these students and their teachers do need help. Any tool or project to keep these students interested and motivated is crucial. Thank you for your time and support!
My Project
We're moving on to place value, addition, and subtraction within 40! We will be regroup and borrowing 10s! This is a huge academic, essential goal for first grade. Hands-on learning is a strong and meaningful way to learn. With place value blocks, students can see and touch how 10s are deconstructed and put together.
Since we are not in class together, having tools at home would help students feel like they are school.
Writing has been a tough subject to find time for while we are focusing on the mechanics of reading, such as phonics. Having personal writing journals will encourage students to write at home and allow them to have a space that is just their own. As for the white board markers, using white boards has been absolutely critical for me to understand their understanding! We have been going through white board markers like there is no tomorrow! Having the pocket chart will allow students to see spelling words, vocabulary, and other important information daily. Overall, the support of student success has been bolstered by at-home tools.
