Access to Scholastic Art for High School Students

My students need 40 subscriptions to Scholastic Art magazine to inspire and inform them in art class.

My Students

My art students need to be connected to the art world outside their school. They haven't been exposed to the lives of today's top contemporary artists. They need to discover how these artists were influenced by the times they lived in and how other artists from the past influence them.

The challenge for my art students is not only to learn how to act and think like artists but to learn how to become adept at critical thinking, and independent learning.

My students come from an urban high school and like all urban high schools funding has been slashed, especially for the arts. Many of my students will be the first in their families to attend college, and I feel it is our duty as urban educators to prepare them for the classes they will be taking in college. Scholastic Art magazine will promote their literary skills and will inspire and inform them through out the school year.

My Project

A year's subscription to Scholastic Arts magazine for my students will enable them to become critical thinkers by teaching them about art history, contemporary artists, careers in the arts. They will be introduced to a variety of hands-on projects where they can use art techniques they have read about.

Scholastic Arts magazine will be an important resource for promoting literacy skills and a love of the arts in my classroom.

I can use it in all my classes as a single resource which will give me the ability to inspire over 150 students through out the year. I can also save the copies so additional students in the years to come can benefit.
