This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach kindergarten at a very low socio--economic school. The majority of my students are second language learners. More than 3/4 of my class receives free or reduced priced lunch. My classroom also serves students with special needs.
Everyday our students come to school excited to see what what they will be learning.
Our students love school, they love to learn and are eager to learn.
We rely solely on donations and grants for classroom supplies and materials. Asking our families to help with fundraisers is out of the question.
My Project
These books will be used to replace some of our old boring basal readers. My students will be able to have access to good literature. Together we will analyze the stories using various Common Core skills. Through story retelling using dramatization students can retell the stories. This project is especially important for my students who are second language learners. Being able to have multiple ways to access text to understand the story will help with their story comprehension.
This project will provide engaging literature to my students.
It will allow us to spend a week on each book doing a close read as well as activities that correlate with each book. The correlating activities are all common core based as well with the same themes as the books. The students will enjoy that the activities match the books.
