it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Over the past 20 years, I have observed a rise in mental health issues among my special education students. I only hope items on my list will help in reducing stress, improving students' moods, enhancing cognitive function, fostering independence and social skills, and aiding in emotional healing. I am eager for my students to have the opportunity to create a beautiful garden during one of their elective classes in which I am certain that this project will instill a sense of pride in my students. This project will give them a break from the added stress given by the academic classes required to graduate. Gardening has been proven to have a positive impact on mental health, as it can help to uplift moods and alleviate stress and anxiety. Establishing gardening routines, such as watering and weeding, can provide structure to their daily lives, which in turn, I hope will help to continue to improve their mental well-being. In addition to gardening, the ink cartridges and Boogie Board Jot tablets on my list would support a multi-sensory approach to instruction. They would allow for printing in color different flowers or step-by-step instructions and also facilitate individual responses and creative expression on the tablets, erasing, and encouraging imagination. This is needed as I have students at all cognitive levels. LEGO sets are also essential to my project, as they will give students the chance to build different flowers before we see the final product. This will be useful for comparison and data collection. Extra LEGO pieces would benefit those who are not interested in building flowers, in addition to the canvas and games on the list. I am looking forward to bringing this project to life for my students with intellectual disabilities, so they can reach their full potential.
