Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Be RESPECTFUL, Responsible, Safe, Kind! These 4 expectations are posted throughout our school. All students are held to the same standard, but some are not showing respect. My students are continuing an Anti-Bullying program to share with all classes so ALL students feel safe, accepted, & respected.

Teaching my students to live every day as the best version of themselves is crucial.

The neighborhood they are growing up is filled with negative influences and if I can build their self confidence and empower them to stand up for the right thing now they will be prepared to face the peer pressure in middle school and continue on their individual journeys toward successful futures! I teach in a Title I school with 96% of students qualifying for free/reduced lunch program in an urban neighborhood. My students are amazing thinkers with great potential, but they are growing up in an area of high poverty and high crime. The school we spend our days in is filled with caring teachers who put their heart and soul into creating learning experiences for all students that will help them each reach their full potential. As a teacher here, we often spend large amounts of our personal money buying materials, including books for our classrooms.

My Project

The literature, including the Townsend Press book "Bullying in Schools," will be used in the extension of our school-wide anti-bullying program to encourage all students to be respectful and celebrate our differences! We will be creating more take home packs with the book along with activities to engage families in anti-bullying conversations at home. Students will share the message of respect and kindness with their family members. The labels and clipboards will be used to organize our library positive books. An organized learning space is more productive! The additional books will be used to enhance our literacy skills while engaging in discussions about respect for diversity. We will focus on understanding the importance of "not judging a book by it's cover" through anti-bullying activities that encourage all students to celebrate the differences amongst us!

Please help me change the world!!!

If I can start with this group of students and then they can pass on what they have learned to others, this world will become a more positive place to live...one student at a time!! "Be the change you wish to see in the world!" - Gandhi
