This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Respect everyone and everything". We need books that help us learn acceptance of others.
I have 24 students from Hispanic backgrounds.
They are mostly on free lunch. We teach one day in English and the following day in Spanish. They love learning and have never ending questions. Their favorite time of the day, aside from lunch, is going to centers.
My Project
"Respect everyone and everything" is something we preach. I find that we don't have books to really teach respect for everyone. I'd like books that touch on what diversity looks like. We could benefit from titles such as We Belong Together, which is about what it means to be a family, Conoce India, which exposes us to the Indian culture, and Cleversticks, which is about being proud while being different from his classmates. Grandmother''s Dreamcatcher and Muskrat Will Be Swimming, will teach about Native American culture, and The Egyptian Cinderella can be the start of learning how Egyptian life would have been.
I believe we can help kindergarten students begin to understand what it means to "Respect everyone and everything".
Your donation will bring us titles such as We Belong Together, Conoce India, Cleversticks, Grandmother''s Dreamcatcher, Muskrat Will Be Swimming, and The Egyptian Cinderella. Having these books as part of our classroom library will give us the foundation of cultural diversity on which to build.
