My Students
I have a very talented group of students who love to learn! They come running to class excited every day. They eagerly try all activities and ask insightful questions. Their excitement to learn is truly inspiring.
Many of my students come from low-income families.
About 76% of the schools qualify for free lunch, and about 25% are military families. Currently, we have 700 students in grades 6-8 with a wide range of abilities. This is a very inquisitive group that genuinely wants to learn and participate in class activities.
My Project
These materials will make a huge impact on student learning as well as participation in after school academic team competitions. Students in grades 6, 7 and 8 all compete and need to read the books on the required book list. Every year, the OJABA competition gives a list of books to read for the competitions, and my students want to read as many as possible to be more competitive in the meets.
Getting my students access to the books helps them increase their reading skills as well as be more prepared for competitions.
Without the books, they have a hard time advancing in the competitions because questions come up about the books from the reading list in every round of the competition.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
