FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Chhay's classroom raised $924

My Students
I am the teacher of a fully self-contained classroom located on the Big Island of Hawaii. I service students from grades K-5 who have been determined to be medically fragile. My students come from varying backgrounds, circumstances, and needs. They also come with individual strengths, quirks, and challenges. My students are unique, wonderful, and a joy to work with!
While my students face the types of challenges that most of their peers won't ever experience in their lives, they do so with hard work and determination.
A large percentage of what my students work with on a daily basis is created in the classroom. This would include materials that assist them in getting through the school day (i.e. visual schedules, task analyses, etc.), providing them with incentives (i.e. token economy/reward board, etc.), allowing them to learn at their developmental range (i.e. matching activities, sorting activities, etc.) and communication (i.e. "if/then" charts, "I want..." charts, etc.). Materials needed to create such tools need to be on hand at all times in my classroom.
My Project
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which resulted in school closures statewide, my students' schedules were interrupted in the previous year; many of them were distance learners at some point. This school year, we have resumed face-to-face learning. My students will need to familiarize themselves with the new schedule and classroom routines.
Having materials to create personalized tools that help each student learn and communicate will help them to ease back into the school routine with less frustration and stress for both them and the adults that work with them.
These medically fragile students will be happier when they understand how the world around them works and when they feel understood.
The Teachers Pay Teachers gift cards will be used to purchase ready-made lessons, worksheets, and activities. The Velcro dots will be incorporated into their learning and communications systems throughout the classroom.
The trays will be used to organize student work pertaining to specific objectives they are working towards mastering. The textured uppercase and lowercase alphabet letter and number flashcards will help in the learning of these fundamental concepts.
