My Students
Our school is a public PreK-8th grade school with a population of five hundred students. We're located in an urban area. All of our students are considered at-risk and they all receive free lunch. We also have five, special needs classes in our building
While the area around the school is filled with vacant lots, abandoned homes, buildings and cars, our students enter the building ready and eager to learn.
Most of them encounter challenges with having basic needs in life, but many do not succumb to feelings of hopelessness nor anger. Instead, they try their best in all that they do.
My Project
My students need manipulatives while learning on-line from home. I have students that I'm currently trying to teach them how to do single digit addition.
The students are having a hard time counting to arrive at the answers.
This particular group have small siblings so some items cannot be used as counters such as beans.
The manipulatives will help me to instruct the students on how to solve the problems and it will help me to observe them solving problems so I can give them feedback. This will help the students gain a deep understanding.
