My Students

Science can be difficult if you cannot see what the teacher is talking about. Creating artistic projects can help students understand abstract ideas. But how can that be done without basic art supplies?

My students are creative!

Every year they burn through all of my art supplies and that makes me so proud of them. We don't have an art class at my school, I am not an art teacher, but I know how important that class can be for my artistic students. Unfortunately, some of their parents cannot always afford to send them to school with basic art supplies. I want my students to have no fear when it comes to their creativity. With these supplies on hand, they will be able to create without restriction.

My Project

I want more of my assignments to be project based, so I need the basic supplies for my students to show what they know. The more supplies that I can provide for them in school, the more they are willing they are to be creative and turn in their best work. My students need construction paper, scissors, markers and colored pencils for projects. Giving them a chance to use their imagination to help them understand an abstract scientific concept and then create something to make it concrete will propel them into the sciences. Using art is an excellent method for teaching science to students who are not auditory learns. My students will be allowed to borrow, lose or keep these supplies, as needed throughout the year. Any of the supplies left over will be given to the students who need it the most for their summer.

These donations are what I normally spend my money on during the school year.

If I have a base amount of them at the beginning of the year, I can buy more specialized supplies throughout the year. These donations are the most consumed items in my classroom. With these items fulfilled, my students will be able to borrow and keep supplies for projects in their future.
