it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Don't let our classroom "shelf" destruct! My students deserve the same access to a highly functioning classroom as their peers. One that includes shelves! With all of the buzz around “equity” these days, it has yet to be reflected in our school’s budget and classrooms. Funds that were earmarked for things like classroom furniture, book shelves, carpets, etc. are no longer available. I haven’t had my own class in 5 years, which means I'm starting from scratch and it is scary! My soon to be classroom is a vacant room, without built-in shelving or storage capacity. We are working with 4 walls, student desks taken from another room, books in storage crates, and my creative thinking.
Help us lay the groundwork of our incoming 2nd grade class by providing bookshelves for our classroom library and storage space for our classroom supplies.
I want my students to be able to touch books, turn the pages, and take it all in. Some of my students are beginning readers and quite a few of them are just learning English. I don't want any obstacles deterring their love for school and especially reading! They need access to books and materials without the barriers of digging through crates.
