Help me give my students things like a pottery tool set, modeling clay, and yarn for the ability to experiment with art mediums and find a love of creation.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Kristy's classroom raised $407
This project is fully funded
My Students
My group of 12 (eventually 17) preschoolers are very inquisitive, independent, and excited learners. My student's home backgrounds, for the most part, do not have the financial means to explore crafts and hobbies like middle or high income homes do. My mixed group of 3-5 year olds will learn and grow through these various art activities.
My main goal every year is to provide the best learning activities to promote new experiences that result in personal and academic growth!
Each year I like to put on an art event to showcase my students work for the families to come visit our classroom. I would like to have a range of projects displayed vs. just 2-D or 3-D. This year the event will be in person or virtual.
A range of materials will make sure to suit all my diverse children's interests and allow them to learn new skills, possible hobbies, and ways to work with their hands and create! While creating the list of materials with my students, one of them stated, “I love to work play dough with my hands. Maybe I can make something to last for my mom out of clay?”
My Project
These materials will make a difference by giving my students a chance to use their hands and minds to create. I have included items to teach weaving with burlap, yarn, plastic needles, loops and looms. This ties in with multi-cultural, fine motor, and problem solving skills. I will show them how to make coil pots with the modeling clay and techniques with the pottery tools. This will strengthen their hand/finger muscles and improve grasping and writing. Experimenting with finger painting and canvas painting techniques with different brushes will allow for cognitive compare and contrasting skills. Lastly, the children would like to try the art of folding paper, known as origami. This will focus on problem solving, following multi-step directions, and fine motor skills. All the materials will allow me to teach how different applications will create varying effects. Thank you for considering my project!
