This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a group of 19 PreK students in a low-income area with 100% of my students receiving free breakfast and lunch. All of my students are English language learners who are all eager to learn English but they all come from homes where the parents unfortunately do not speak English and so they do not have a role model at home to learn the English language. My students are energetic little kids who love to learn and are very excited about being in school. However, since my students are all non English speaking students they need a lot of visuals and hands-on activities in order to learn and make the learning process more meaningful.

My Project

My students need hands-on and most of all FUN items for letter naming and letter sound acquisition. Unfortunately, we are lacking hands-on letter game centers. As a new Prekindergarten teacher, it is very challenging for me because prekindergarten can not be taught through the use of the traditional paper and pencil assignments like other grades. The reasoning behind this is that young children learn through more meaningful experiences such as games and creative activities. Unfortunately, my school does not have extra funding to provide my class with these materials.

Please help my English language learning students embark on an exciting journey.

They are 4 and 5 year olds who are learning the English language and unfortunately come from households where the parents also do not speak English. Therefore, they need meaningful and engaging activities in order to acquire the content being taught. These letter naming and letter sounding games will help the letter become meaningful to them as well as provide hands-on inquiry in the process.

I am requesting magnetic letters, sound matching board game, alphabet mystery box game, letter writing chart, and a simple word builder game. These types of creative and fun learning centers with games are important in prekindergarten and need to be hands-on inquiry based as well as age-appropriate.

Letter naming and recognition as well as blending letters together to create a word while playing with these games will give a new, exciting approach to letter naming. In prekindergarten, I am building the foundation for a future of learning. Please help my students so that they can learn and cherish their prekindergarten year.
