it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Think back on your own kindergarten experience. Did you love coming to school, listening to stories, playing at recess or building with blocks? The magic of kindergarten is not only gaining the skills required to be a 21st-century learner but supporting our youngest learners with developing the executive functioning skills children need to thrive. The guided inquiry and magic of play will create lifelong learners who can collaborate and take risks. Research shows students who experience a quality early childhood education have stronger problem-solving skills, and the social-emotional skills needed to succeed in today’s job market. When children are nurtured as well as taught to read, write, and think critically, their growth can be endless. I love teaching kindergarten at a public elementary school in Los Angeles.
Our students come from a low socioeconomic background; all students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, and the majority of the students are English language learners.
However, statistics don’t tell the whole story. My students are inquisitive, hard-working, and caring. They will count, read, write, but most important, become kind humans ready to make this world a better place!
My Project
"An investment in knowledge pays the best interest." -Benjamin Franklin
Young children learn best through play and using their senses as it motivates, stimulates and supports children in their early learning.
Students will enjoy building their name with giant magnetic letters, tracing the alphabet with letters made of sandpaper and sorting tiny toys and cards into representing each letter sound groups. Learning the letter sounds and symbols grants students access to the reading code early on. Included in my project includes a professional book to keep myself abreast on the latest research in teaching our youngest learner.
The number one goal in my classroom is to provide fun and engaging experiences that help students development a deep love of learning, fill their heart with joy and spark a life long fire for reading.
