This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Preschoolers learn by doing! They learn more when they are playing! Center activities to a three and four year old are playing, but they are all learning activities in my classroom.
I teach a Severe Disorders of Language/Aphasia preschool class in California.
My classroom is on a regular elementary school campus K-6 with 5 Special Day Classes for children with disabilities. I am both a Speech Pathologist, as well as a general education classroom teacher.
I currently have 16 three and four year olds in my class. Some of my students start school at 3 years old with little to no language but by the time they are kindergarten age they have age appropriate language and speech. Some of my other students have severe articulation disorders making them unintelligible even to their own parents.
My Project
My students do best when they are playing. Center time is an active, fun time. My assistants and I work with the students in small groups and individually to help get their readiness skills up to age level. Letter and number recognition is very difficult for my students. The 5 center activities that I am requesting are bright, inviting and make learning fun.
I am requesting fishing poles that will teach the children upper and lower case letter matching skills. They all want to play and they don't realize how much they are learning. I am also requesting games that teach how things go together, how to sort and things to count. I could make these things with line drawings and paper but Lakeshore makes them durable, bright and fun - my drawing isn't that great!
This is a very important project because my students love to learn.
They also love to teach each other and many of these games and activities will help them teach each other. Teaching someone else will reinforce sharing, language and other social skills.
