My students need visual objects and visual aids to learn their letters and sounds in order to start reading. My students need visual aids to practice reading words.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Imagine being in a classroom and not understanding what the teacher is teaching you. That is what several of my students experience on a daily basis.
My school is a New York City Title 1 public school which services grades PreK-5.
I teach English Language Learners in grades kindergarten and first grade in small groups. My students are very eager to learn new things. Unfortunately, at times they face difficulties in learning due to language.
My goal is to provide them with the proper ESL services they need in order to become proficient in English.
My Project
Since many of my kindergarten students and some of my first grade students are just starting to learn English, I want them to learn the alphabet in a fun and educational way. The LeapFrog Letter Factory DVD is a great resource for students to learn and practice their letters and sounds. The extra DVDs would be used for students to borrow so they can practice their letters and sounds when they're not in school. When students have learned their letters and sounds, they're able to start reading words. The LeapFrog Talking Words Factory DVD would help the students start to form words. Like the Letter Factory DVD, I would have the students borrow the Talking Words Factory DVD so they can practice forming words at home.
The Alphabet Sounds, Vowel, Blends and Digraphs teaching tubs would be a great asset for my students. Many of my students are visual and hands on learners so by having an object in front of them helps them remember what it is as opposed to a picture.
I want to make sure that my students can have all the resources they need to learn and succeed in school.
You will help my students learn their letters and sounds. Most importantly, you will help them improve their English language development.
