I am a Special Education teacher in a self-contained environment. My students have unique abilities! Their educational needs are not typically met in the general education classroom and require individual learning supports.
My students have cognitive disabilities and physical disabilities.
Some of my students require a lot of assistance while others may not. I strive to give my students a sense of community in our classroom. I want to make learning fun for my kiddos.
My Project
My students love hands-on activities, plus it is one of my favorite learning styles. The kinesthetic-tactile learning style requires that you manipulate or touch material in order to learn. The math and language activities that I have selected are great examples of hands-on learning. Giving students manipulatives and models to work with leads to a deeper understanding of the content.
This project will help my students increase their learning of numbers and word families.
Even at their young age and cognitive impairment, my students show that they have maximum potential if they can be properly supported. In addition to early exposure to math and language skills, these activities will ensure that my students have good practice in these areas. Plus, my students will have so much fun with these materials!
