My Students
Teaching in a low-income/Title 1 school means that the majority of our students are coming to school with baggage and limited experience. No matter if this baggage is being hungry, excessively tired, or difficulties at home, it is our job as educators to provide a positive, loving and supporting environment that encourages learning and growth.
Our students are bright, witty and loving and deserve to have the experiences that aren't restricted by their family's wealth.
These students shoot for the stars in their dreams and aspirations despite the tough hand they have been dealt. They are truly inspiring individuals who deserve every opportunity to learn.
My Project
With this trip, 2nd graders at our school could have the opportunity to leave our town, travel over the mountains and experience the joy and wonder of a world-class zoo. Many of our students have never left our town and almost none have seen any type of animal other than house pets in their life. This field trip will expose them to exotic animals they have been reading about all year.
Field trips like this will give them first-hand experiences with the curriculum they learn and also give them a memory of a trip that many of them have never been able to experience.
These students need positive experiences in school that support their learning and encourage them to continue thriving, and they deserve this no matter what type of home they come from or what they can afford. A field trip like this will benefit these students now and for years to come.
