A Zen Zone

Help me give my students a "Zen Zone" within my classroom. I currently teach 8th and 10th grade students who sometimes need an area to "breathe" Unfortunately, anxiety and panic attacks happen more often than people realize.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is a public, all-girl, college-prep school part of the Young Women's Preparatory Network in the state of Texas. Our goal as part of the network is to help first-generation girls reach their goal of going to college. We take students from grades 6th-12th, and they start their college preparation journey as soon as they enter. Our school emphasizes STEAM, which allows us to offer student programs such as Orchestra, Theatre, Robotics, Bio-med, and Engineering. We are also an AVID Demonstration school, which is a program that supports college readiness for the future. We are lucky to have a very diverse group of students; they come from all over El Paso just to come to our school! My students are intelligent, kind, motivated, and eager to learn! I have never seen a more hardworking group of students. All of them exceed expectations, and it does not go unnoticed throughout the campus.

My Project

The items that I am requesting are specifically targeted towards creating a "Zen Zone" in an area of my classroom. The Zen Zone will be a place where students can practice self-care and mindfulness whenever they are feeling anxious or if they need a safe space. Anxiety, panic attacks, identity crisis, etc. are common emotional issues related to mental health that occur on campus, and I would like to use this project as a way to help reduce these problems. I want students to feel like they go to the space with no worries or concerns to just let the bad feelings all go.
