A Year of Growth

My Project

Help me teach our students that winter doesn't have to stop our growing season! Our school is working towards teaching students how to garden, and we want to show them that they can grow vegetables all year long.

Our winters in Alaska are long, but our summers are short.

We have some fantastic soil, and during the summer we have sunshine for over 20 hours a day. It's amazing what we can grow up here during the summer! However our winters are long and very cold, and fresh food can be expensive since most of it has to be shipped up from somewhere warmer.

Imagine how much fun it'd be for kids to be able to grow food inside, when it's -30 degree's below zero outside! This is an amazing opportunity for our students to learn about agriculture and healthy eating, even during our cold Alaskan winters.

Our students are amazing and so very capable of learning, but our community is small and several miles away from local grocery stores. Teaching them how to grow their own food, and showing them that it can be done even during the winter, will benefit their lives for years to come.
