Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students have grit! Character. Spirit. Perseverance. Passion.
Everyone has a story.
My students may only be nine, ten, and eleven, but they already have a lifetime's worth of stories to tell. It is my job to provide them with the tools to help them refine their storytelling.
I am one of the lucky people who enjoy going to work every day, so I am happy to be part of the 99%. My students are free spirits and are sponges waiting to soak everything up. They attend school in a densely populated part of the city.
My Project
Bill Gates once said, "Technology is just a tool. In terms of getting the kids working together and motivating them, the teacher is the most important." However, with the right teacher and the right tool, the possibilities of student exploration are endless.
My students are living in the 21st century and they are constantly being bombarded with all sorts of media in their everyday lives.
Students can acquire new information through technological tools. How do we move students away from thinking technology is all about social media and more of a learning tool? With a new, updated laptop, we can do all of the following: We can access resources and find best practices about how to implement the Common Core State Standards in my classroom. During class time, my students will use the laptop to create book reports via iMovies. They will practice their prosody in fluency reading via Garageband. They will learn to create timelines via Animation apps. And they will practice reading comprehension. They will create a community service project to answer this question- "How can we use technology as a tool to help instead of hurt?"
