I absolutely love how my students are enthusiastic learners in math! Some concepts we learn in kindergarten are pretty straightforward. Others are a lot more abstract and take more effort and practice to learn. My students are so engaged and eager to learn in math time every day, and that gives me the ability to challenge them and find new ways to inspire and encourage their love of learning.
I am hoping to get a class set of Rekenreks to add to my math manipulatives in class.
These were new to me until recently, I learned about them and got to practice with one at a math conference I attended, and I immediately knew that I needed them for my students!
My project would allow me to get these amazing tools into the hands of each of my students. They are incredibly useful and can help students learn many different skills with their number sense, such as different ways to show numbers, number partners, explaining their reasoning and thinking, and so much more. These could be used both in whole-class lessons and small group instruction. The Rekenreks will encourage students to think about numbers in more than one way and see the value in thinking outside the box. Thank you!
