it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our twenty-nine third graders live in a world of television, video games and pop culture. The Broadway theater experience represents all that is lost in performance and entertainment from stage acting to live singing and dancing. Bringing Broadway to these children will provide the experience of a lifetime.
Most of our students have never been outside of New York, so it is especially exciting for them to dream of faraway, imaginary places like Oz. Many of our students receive free lunch and are in temporary housing and would not typically be given this opportunity. Broadway is part of American history and is an experience that should be enjoyed by all!
It would be wonderful to expose the power of the theater to these children. The arts are often an expendable luxury that our students cannot afford. "Wicked" is the untold story of the witches of Oz. It is our mission to provide both education and fun with this show that will leave the children’s minds filled with dreams and endless goals.
We recently began reading “The Wizard of Oz.” Seeing "Wicked" is a chance to bring this fairytale to life and make the characters relatable. By bringing our students a matinee showing of "Wicked", we will be sending them a message that they are worthy and deserving and teach them respect for the arts. Required audience behavior will teach them manners, patience, and self-discipline. “Wicked” is a story of friendship and love and has a great moral concept.
The right experience can touch a child's heart and change a life. A musical theater experience sends a message to the children - You matter and deserve the best! You can make it possible for our students to have this once in a lifetime experience. We hope you will contribute to our class trip to Oz! Your kindness and generosity will be appreciated by all.
