Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students, like so many others, are fascinated by technology. Especially new technology that they have never seen or used before. Many of the students in my class have never had an opportunity to work and use a MacBook or some of the wonderful learning resources that are available for it.
My students are in the only 4th grade self-contained classroom in our school.
They are also the only 4th grade inclusion classroom, which means that we have the full spectrum of levels within one room. We have Exceptional Student Education (ESE) students, along with students who are learning English for the first time (ESOL) and even a student who is a combination ESE & ESOL student. All mixed in with the general education students. With so many different levels, and so many individual needs, I need to be constantly thinking of different ways to engage and teach to the many different students.
My Project
With the MacBook Air my students will be able to use iMovie to make their own movies about a subject that they feel comfortable teaching others. They can also watch previously made iMovies that other students have made about math concepts that they are having difficulty with. I want them to be able to use the MacBook to also watch videos about space and NASA because they are always so amazed by how big our universe is. I want them to see beyond their neighborhood and explore the world.
To see a child's face light up when they learn something new is something any teacher will tell you is the best day ever.
When they learn something new on technology that they have never been able to use before it is even more amazing. Most of my students come from low (or very low) income families and will not get many opportunities to use new technology and learn about how to use them. I know they will be able to learn so much and remember the year that they were able to do something new.
More than half of students from low‑income households
