it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am the high school librarian of an urban 9-12 secondary school in California. One of my educational objectives is to support my students' journeys as they challenge themselves academically and prepare for college. Many of our students have been raised in families that don't prioritize the value of academic learning or higher learning. This means that these students don’t have modeling, educational expectations, or a support network at home. Therefore, I have taken it upon myself to be a valuable resource for my student and their personal cheerleader, visualization coach, and mentor.
My Project
Knowing how to read and appreciating the written word are two critical skills that influence one's success in life. The only way to improve reading technique is to read. The only way to revere text is to discover compelling literature.
I endeavor to help students develop both their comprehension and their literary devotion by continuing to expand our weekly Book Club.
In the library every Wednesday at lunch, students can hang out with peers and supportive adult facilitators to bolster their literacy skills, to practice sharing ideas about literature, to widen their understanding and admiration of text.
Thank you for helping me help our young people find a place of belonging within our school while immersing themselves in a garden of words.
