My Students

Our school is a Level I school, with six hundred and fifty-six elementary students from pre-k through eighth grade. About 48.8% of those students come from low-income households, 19.2% of the students are diverse learners, and 13.3% have limited English skills. Our classroom is comprised of pre-kindergarten students in a multi-age setting.

In our classroom, there are high student expectations of independence and self-monitoring.

We believe that the overall understanding of one’s experiences is a genuine form of knowledge. This is why we saw the importance of allowing the child freedom to learn in a carefully prepared environment. The materials that we need in the classroom will aid in their self-exploration in which they can discover their strengths and weaknesses as they challenge the confines of their own realities.

My Project

Today was the first day I was able to step in the classroom since March. The children will be coming to school in person on January 11th. As I looked into CDC recommendations for integrating cleaning and disinfecting plan, I recognize that children do share an area rug for circle time and read-aloud in our classroom. According to CDC, "Soft and porous materials, such as area rugs and seating, may be removed to reduce the challenges with cleaning and disinfecting them."

To ensure that children have a warm, comfortable, and safe alternative to using an area rug for circle time, I would like to ask for your support in acquiring soft seats that could be easily disinfected, and individually labeled for my students who will be leaning in person.

If my assistant and I will be able to clean and disinfect shared places in our classroom, we will reduce the risk of spreading the infection by removing and killing germs on surfaces children frequently touch/occupy. The children will also not be met by a cold floor during an important parts of our day, which is circle time and read-aloud. Thank you so much for your support!
