Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Why is a sloth so slow? Well I have 20 third graders who are craving to find out. I teach in a low-income area at a charter school that receives a lower amount of funding than public schools. All of my students are English language learners and are in need of extra materials to grasp academic concepts faster than a sloth grabs leaves. :)

We all enjoy when learning is exciting! Having stimulating materials available to make learning fun can be a struggle on a tight budget. My students need manipulatives and visuals to help really connect with how animals are similar, different and why they are grouped in certain ways. As of now we don’t have a large supply of animal materials we can interact with. Hopefully, with your help, that can change.

An animal photo library, a rainforest puzzle that shows the different levels of the rainforest and a photo filled animal paperback series will certainly arouse my students’ curiosity about different biomes and their animals. They can play many grouping and characteristic games with the photo cards, as well as relate pictures to text in the paperback books. Let’s make learning exciting again!

I bet you’ve been wondering why a sloth moves slowly while reading this and with your help we can answer that and so many more tantalizing animal questions. Your wonderful donation will help my students truly enjoy investigating and researching animal life, along with discovering ways to help save the environment for future generations. Life science has a place and a purpose in our classrooms…and so do we!
