This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are identified as having learning disabilities and require individualized/group assistance. We are located in a district considered below poverty level with an enormous amount of minority and bilingual students. Our school is located in the Bronx, NY by the world famous Bronx Zoo.
Our children with special needs require individualized and group help to assist them with dealing with their learning, speech, and emotional disabilities.
Technology has shown, when used correctly, to improve scores as well as self esteem. It's hard enough dealing with a disability, and now with the added pressure of trying to keep up academically, our students need as much support as possible. Will you help me get these wonderful students caught up with their peers?
My Project
Our students need one laptop to connect to a projector and portable smart board (which is another DonorsChoose project we just submitted) to assist us with research, hands-on interactive screen activities and for word processing needs. There are many students who are more comfortable with typing than handwriting reports. We have a program that will also be installed for Speak to Text capabilities for students with dysgraphia issues. We all can agree that computers are necessary in our technology based world and the more we help build our students skills using computers, the better their outcome. Will you help support this cause?
Our small classroom currently has no funding available to replace our damaged computer which has been deemed unusable.
We are requesting the laptop to continue helping our special needs students use technology to enhance their lessons, teach research skills, word processing applications, and to connect to a projector to enhance lessons with hands-on interactive activities.
