Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We strive to help students at our school become engaged citizens with an understanding of US history and culture. In Social Studies class, students learn about the foundations of US government. Students study the Civil Rights Movement and turning points in American Immigration. Students are exposed to moments where American ideals were not upheld as well as moments were injustice was overcome to move us closer to those ideas. The sites of Washington DC play a big role in answering this question. Students will virtually visit: the National Museum of the American Indian, the monuments on the Washington Mall, the US Holocaust Memorial Museum, Arlington National Cemetery, the White House, the Supreme Court, Capital Hill, the National Archives, the Washington Monument, the National Museum of American History, the Martin Luther King Jr. memorial and the National Museum of African American History. Jumpstreet will create a through itinerary and activities students can complete via their computers at school!

Visiting Washington DC - even through a screen - will broaden their horizons and help them draw real word connections to our curriculum.
