it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are multilingual learners navigating life in a new country while balancing school, language barriers, family responsibilities, and social-emotional stress. Many of them come from immigrant or refugee backgrounds and often carry the weight of adult responsibilities. Despite their challenges, they are resilient, compassionate, and deeply eager to succeed. Our school is a supportive and welcoming community where we prioritize mental health as part of our students' academic success.
This project will provide our students with a Meta Quest 3 virtual reality headset, which they can use in our newly created Zen Room—a calming space for relaxation and emotional regulation.
The VR headset will allow students to participate in guided meditations, explore virtual nature walks or calming music environments, and even "travel" to peaceful places around the world—all without leaving school.
The goal is to give students an immersive, accessible tool to help manage their anxiety, de-stress, and return to class feeling more centered and ready to learn.
Many of our students experience daily anxiety, whether from academic pressure, adjusting to a new environment, or personal struggles. Having a tool like the Meta Quest 3 in the Zen Room will create a safe, engaging way to support mental wellness. Virtual reality is not only exciting and modern but also proven to lower stress and improve mindfulness. This headset will be a meaningful and memorable addition to their self-care toolkit.
