My Students

Students in my classroom learn in an experimental matter. Our class begins with attendance, announcements and reminders, and a quick overview of what is expected during the class period. Students are then set loose to complete their assignments through discovery, giving them ownership of their work.

I teach 6th and 7th graders in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) course in which students "major," that is in addition to their curricular science class.

I want my students to remain in our STEM programs and go forward having a strong foundation in what STEM Ed is about. My students like hands-on, applicable tasks that enlighten their worlds and satisfy their curiosities. They want to experience, learn, and create. My school provides an incredible environment for satisfying such desires, but as we get larger, our budget gets tighter, and I try to alleviate costs where I can in an effort to keep our school successful. I am looking to make our short VEXIQ unit into a full-year Introduction to Robotics course. To do this, we need add-on supplies to our existing VEXIQ kits to make our work a bit more challenging. This also includes a teacher demo kit so I can write, test, and model without disrupting the work of my students.

My Project

The varying materials in my cart will be added to our existing VEXIQ Robotics Kits to expand student construction possibilities, to provide more challenging tasks using sensors, and to have back-up cords for those rare occurrences of broken and/or missing cords. As this potential year in robotics progresses, it is my hope to be able to have our students enter robotics competitions through VEX Robotics as part of their curriculum in robotics.

In addition to this, VEX will provide a strong foundation in the mechanics of robotics, programming, and even 3D printing, as they design and print their own VEX customization pieces.

This will further prepare our students for their later study of Robotics as they move into our high school programming.
