Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are just turning five. Currently, we are distance learning. For many of them, this is their first experience in a school setting, and it is anything but typical! Some of the students have special learning needs, and many are learning English for the first time. The majority of their families live below the poverty line and rely on our free meal plan for their children's breakfast and lunch. The parents are very supportive, and they enjoy spending time with their little ones, reading stories, and learning new things. We are a very diverse community, with over 20 languages spoken.
Our school is a high-poverty Title I school with high expectations for all.
Each day we practice letters, phonics, and sight words. We study science and math. Distance learning during the pandemic consists of live, online instruction on Zoom and using iPad apps and websites. This is very difficult for four-year-olds who can’t even sit through a movie!
My Project
I am requesting items that my students will be needing to finish out this year and help us start the upcoming semester. Cleaning wipes will be used to wipe down tables to help keep germs from spreading, which will keep the children healthy and keep them in school. A desk shield will help provide protection from germs spread by coughs and sneezes. A good supply of washable markers is needed for creative art projects. Incentives such as treats will serve to motivate the students to try hard and always do their best.
These are items that need replacing every year and are important to keep our young learners healthy and motivated to learn.
Thank you so much for your support of my classroom!
